Chair of Insularity

The University of the Balearic Islands and the Balearic Islands Government aim to foster initiatives that promote innovation, training and research in topics linked to insularity. The Chair of Insularity has been established to cover the need to generate, compile and analyse information related to the specific features of insularity in the Balearic Islands, with a view to providing cross-cutting briefing and guidance for public policies, promoting sustainable development and improving quality of life for local residents. Moreover, it places the Balearics at the forefront alongside other European islands.
The Chair of Insularity aims to: generate cross-cutting information and knowledge on insularity in the Balearic Islands through research, analysis and circulating data and findings; foster cooperation and collaboration between government agencies, academe, the private sector and NGOs with a view to tackling the challenges and opportunities linked to insularity; promote informed decision-making when designing and implementing public policies, taking into account the specific features and requirements in the Balearics; contribute to balanced and sustainable development in the Balearics and other European islands, and provide access to and circulate information about insularity for the general public, with a view to raising awareness on the impacts and challenges for islands.
