A research group in the technology of materials area from the University offers a study and test service to define the microstructures of different materials, mainly metallic, by optical and electronic microscopy. With this determination, the chemical composition of it can be determined and, consequently, its properties.
Optical microscopy refers to the use of microscopes that use visible light in order to visualize or observe samples. Electronic microscopy is able to study in detail small structures, viruses, or even molecules that would be impossible to see with optical microscopy. The difference is that it does not use light or photons, but rather an electrons beam that travel undulate in wavelengths much smaller than white light (which means higher image resolution).
