Personalized diets advices and elaboration
Adaptation and design of diet according to the physiological characteristics and nutritional requirements of each individual.
As a consequence of changes in body composition, physical exercise and energy and nutrition needs, people must adapt their diet throughout their lives. A healthy diet contributes to well-being and a better quality of life, as well as avoiding or minimizing the oxidative stress processes that appear when the reactive oxygen species outweigh the antioxidant defenses of the organism. Oxidative stress is strongly linked to cardiovascular diseases such as certain types of cancer, diabetes, obesity and Alzheimer's, among others.
The UIB has the necessary scientific and technical equipment for the realization of personalized diets based on individualized physiological and nutritional studies, especially for athletes. When exercising intense physical activity, more oxidants are generated, increasing the risk of oxidative stress. A rich diet in antioxidants is essential to counteract its effect.
This service includes:
- Analysis of dietary history: study of dietary habits and food intake to detect alterations in the diet before clinical symptoms are manifested.
- Study of the nutritional state: it indicates if the ingestion, the absorption and the use of nutrients are adapted.
- Analysis of the oxidative, prooxidative and antioxidant state: determination of the content of antioxidants in the diet and personalized studies of oxidative state indicators.
- Performing anthropometric measurements: weight, height and circumference of arms, thighs or hips allow estimating body composition and detecting variations in nutritional status.
