Rational drug design

Characterization and design of therapeutic molecules from the biological study of a specific disease.

The rational design of drugs begins with the biological study of a disease or metabolic disorder by molecular biology techniques, computation and structural analysis of macromolecules.

Once the molecules involved in the pathology have been defined and isolated, it is possible to design drugs that specifically interact with them and that are able to modify them, to obtai an effective treatment.

The most commonly used techniques are gene cloning, directed mutagenesis, X-rays, protein overexpression and purification, lipid structural elucidation and Membrane Lipid Therapy (MLT).

Membrane Lipid Therapy is a "disruptive innovation" that can lead to the development of new transforming drugs with an exceptional combination of safety and efficacy in severe pathologies with unmet critical medical needs, such as oncology, neurodegenerative diseases, metabolic disorders or inflammation.
