Preparation of studies on communication and sensorization infrastructures for digital tourism

Advice on the necessary requirements to achieve a smart tourist destination.

SmartDestination

A smart tourist destination can be defined as one that guarantees the sustainable development of the tourist territory, so that it is accessible to all and facilitates the interaction of the visitor or tourist with the environment, thus increasing their experience in the destination.

Spain is one of the main tourist destinations, so it is necessary to create differential and competitive services. It should be noted that the concept of a smart tourist destination is closely related to the objective of complying with the commitment of environmental, cultural and socio-economic factors.

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are of great importance in this sector, as they are capable of processing and analysing large volumes of data, so that we can obtain useful information on the impact of tourism in our territory. A research group in the area of electronic and communications technology offers advice and preparation of studies and reports on the minimum requirements that communication infrastructures must have in order to move from a tourist destination to a Smart Tourist Destination.

Our experience

Cala Millor

The research group at the University is working on the SmartAdaptat project, a project that aims to deepen the knowledge of the tourism sector and the use made of digital technology in the destination, establishing a new methodology to measure the level of digital immersion of a tourist territory. Measuring these levels will allow us to approximate the impact and viability that digital projects may have using smart devices in the tourist destination. Currently, this activity has already started in the Bay of Cala Millor.
